'New' Dialog allows to define the Key, the Motive type, the Temp, the Meter, and the structure of the new composition.

 Figure 1.

The table below describes each control item in the Figure 1.

This combo box defines the mode of the new composition. You can choose between Major or Minor (harmonic) modes. Combo box below is filled in accord with the chosen mode by either major or minor keys. Switching from the major to minor or from the minor to major changes the key from chosen to corresponding parallel minor or major key.
This combo box defines the key of the new composition. It's filled by either major or minor keys in accord with the mode chosen in the combo box above. The first in the list are all flat keys, then Cmaj / Amin and the last are all sharp keys. List order corresponds to the circle of fifths. Melody key is defined in this dialog only and cannot be further changed. Title consists of the following parts: key letter – capital letters (C, A, E and etc) for major keys, small letters for minor keys, key sign if it is present – ‘es(s)' for flat and ‘is' for sharp, mode name – ‘dur' for the major mode and ‘moll' for the minor mode.
This list allows to choose the motive type of the new composition. Possible values are Iamb, Choree, Amphibrach. Motive type of the composition being created can be defined in this dialog only and cannot be further changed.
This picture represents graphically the motive type and helps to understand the distinctive features of each motive type.
If the Iamb motive type is chosen this combo box allows to define the up-beat note duration as the Iamb ends on the up-beat. For Amphibrach motive type this combo box allows to define the duration of the off-beat. For Choree motive type this combo box is not used.
This combo box defines the temp of melody being created. The list consists of several templates: 'Wide', 'Slowly', 'Unhurriedly', 'Moderately', 'Reservedly', 'Animatedly', 'Fast'. You can define the temp more accurately with SpinEdit control on the right. Both controls are linked – changing the temp template changes the temp value in the right control.
This control allows to define the temp numeric value within the range of 50 – 150. It's linked with the list on the left – changing the temp value changes the temp template to the nearest corresponding value.
This combo box defines the metric signature of a composition.
